193rd Legislative Session Opens; Healey Administration Begins at 12:00 p.m.

The 2023-2024 Legislative Session officially began yesterday at 11:00 a.m. State Representative Ronald Mariano of Quincy was reelected to another term as House Speaker and State Senator Karen Spilka of Ashland was reelected to another term as Senate President.

Maura Healey will be sworn in as the next Massachusetts Governor at 12:00 p.m. today alongside Kim Driscoll, the next Lieutenant Governor.

The start of the new session will be busy with a flurry of bills being filed over the next few weeks. Governor Healey has stated her intentions to focus on various tax policies early on in this session, particularly those proposed by former Governor Baker in his tax relief package last year.

MassCPAs has been in contact with Governor Healey’s team, the Legislature and business community partners to advocate for such tax policies and will continue our efforts in the months ahead.
