CEO Corner

Dear Hannah,

Growing and diversifying the CPA pipeline is a priority across the profession, and awareness is key. MassCPAs works directly with educators and students as young as middle school to get them excited about accounting as a career and to make them aware of all the opportunities in our industry, and I’m excited to share an update on our recent efforts.

  • Last week, the Society released a new video series, “CareerPathwAys: Your path. Your journey. Your CPA career,” to raise awareness of the unique role CPAs play
in helping businesses and communities and highlighting different paths in the profession. Watch the videos here and learn more about our process in this article. We are sharing these videos with students and educators, and I’m happy to report that several other state CPA societies are also using them to help us spread the message nationwide!

  • The Society partnered with the AICPA and 34 other state CPA societies for Accounting Opportunities Week on November 7-11. Throughout the week, members visited high school classrooms to raise awareness of the accounting profession, explain the exciting and challenging roles that CPAs play in the business world and encourage students to visit masscpas.org/careerpathways to start their journey. Thank you to our member volunteers – you helped us reach 200+ students this week!

  • We also recently launched a new mentorship program designed to encourage, inspire and empower future CPAs and provide an opportunity for our members to give back to the profession. The program consists of 15 mentors from various firms and professional levels and 15 mentees who are college students or recent grads. All mentors and  mentees underwent training sessions focused on building strong relationships, the benefits of mentorship, addressing differences, goal setting and more. Read this article for more information. We look forward to scaling this program in the future, and I will keep you informed on opportunities to get involved.

There are so many bright, motivated students trying to decide on
a career path, and it’s our responsibility to support them on their journey in the profession. Much work is to be done, and I’m proud of our efforts and thank all our member volunteers for their support!

Lastly, thank you to those of you who have served our country.
We are grateful for your sacrifice, and we honor you on this Veterans Day.
