All of us at MassCPAs
consider it an honor to provide you with a range of benefits
and services so you can learn, connect and prosper. We couldn’t
do any of it without the amazing team here at the Society – and
this week, there have been big honors and achievements for
three of our superstars!
- Kara Kieran, CAE, is our COO and has been with
the Society for 20 years. She keeps all the trains running
on time here and is often our voice of reason. Kara was
just accepted into the Greater
Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Leadership Program
in partnership with Simmons
University Institute for Inclusive Leadership. It’s
a prestigious program, and she will learn so much to bring
back and make the Society even better and stronger!
- Zach Donah, CAE, is our VP of advocacy. He helps
set our agenda on Beacon Hill and works with Senior
Manager of Government Affairs Larry Liuzzo to solve member
problems at the Board and DOR. Zach also runs our pipeline
programs with Director of Academic & Career
Development Allie Orlando, making sure that young folks,
as well as those from diverse backgrounds, think of
becoming a CPA and are aware of the many career paths in
the profession. I’m proud to say that in recognition of
his great work in all those areas, Zach was just selected
as an Association
Forum 2022 40 Under 40 Recipient.
- Finally, our honoree that some
of you may know best is Jill Foley, our
director of member engagement who was selected as a 2022
NextGen Scholar by ASAE
The Center for Association Leadership. Along with
Member Relations Manager Maggie Grasso, Jill looks after
all our committees, roundtables and other events to help
members connect, learn from each other and have a bit of
fun.
Please join us in
congratulating our Society superstars Kara, Zach and Jill!
Have a great weekend!

Important Legislative Update

Massachusetts
Auditor Bump Certifies $2.9 Billion in Excess Revenue, Refunds
Expected Beginning This November
Yesterday,
State Auditor Suzanne Bump determined the net state tax revenue
exceeded the allowable state tax revenue by $2.9 billion, as
stipulated by M.G.L.
Chapter 62F. In a press release from the Baker Administration
today, “eligible taxpayers will receive a credit in the form of a
refund that is approximately 13% of their Massachusetts Tax Year
2021 personal income tax liability.” Refunds are expected to be
distributed beginning in November 2022. To read the press
release, click here.
To see what your estimated refund may be, click
here.
The
pending $4 billion economic development bill that contains
numerous tax relief proposals, including that to increase the
estate tax threshold, is all but certain to be the main topic of
discussion on Beacon Hill for the rest of the calendar year.
Several legislators we have spoken to over recent weeks seem
confident that tax relief in some form will happen this fall. We
continue our advocacy efforts on Beacon Hill and will keep you
posted on any developments.
