Dear Hannah,

With tax season in full swing, I want to let you know about some helpful resources that are available – and will hopefully provide some relief – to you during busy season.

The AICPA developed a Tax Practitioner’s Marketing Toolkit to help firms of all sizes educate and engage existing clients, develop new relationships and boost your position as your clients’ most trusted adviser. Please note that you must be an AICPA member to download the materials within the toolkit. During busy season, you are also likely to get questions from clients about how the new tax laws will affect them next year. Here are two presentations that highlight the impact to individuals and businesses, that can help you explain the changes.

It’s also important during this time of year to raise awareness of the value CPAs provide to their clients. The MSCPA is running a campaign on social media to promote CPAs, and we encourage members to use our resources on your social media pages to help spread the word. Members can also submit tax season advice to us, and we will share it with our 6,000 Twitter followers and tag you/your firm. As always, we are working on your behalf to help make this tax season run smoothly. If you encounter issues with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, please let us know, so we can work with their problem resolution office to get it corrected. College students will attend a workshop to help prepare them for their transition into the accounting industry and their first year on the job. The event takes place at PwC in the afternoon/evening and includes a series of panel discussions featuring recruiters, CPAs and young professionals, concluding with a networking hour and refreshments. If you are a recruiter, young professional, or a CPA working for a government institution or in industry and who would like to serve as a panelist, please contact Erica DeBiase with a short professional bio to be considered. You will be reached out during the week of March 5 if your background is a fit for the panel discussion.

Outstanding Accounting Educator Award – 2018

Would you like to recognize a professor for their excellence in the classroom? The MSCPA's Outstanding Accounting Educator Award is designed to acknowledge an MSCPA member who is a full-time educator and actively involved in the accounting profession. The winner will receive an award of $1,000 to further his/her professional development and a matching gift will be given to the college's accounting department in their honor. The award will be presented at the Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy on May 23.

The nomination deadline is next Thursday, March 1, 2018.
