CEO Corner
Dear INSERT_FIRST_NAME,

June is an important time at MassCPAs – it’s our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Month! We will feature members throughout the month on our LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram pages, so make sure to check it out.

Many accounting and finance professionals have left employers and the profession due to the lack of good DEI practices, and we must address diversity gaps to attract new talent for relevance, influence and sustainability of the profession. The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), California Society of CPAs (CalCPA) and International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), and a network of state CPA societies, including MassCPAs, recently released research on the state of DEI in accounting and why strong DEI practices are better for the workforce. You can read the report here

While June marks DEI Month, it’s important to note that our efforts are year-round. Here are a few ways we are helping members in this area:
  • Customized DEI Trainings. Strong DEI programs contribute to ethical cultures and are most effective when leaders promote and uphold the ethical values of an organization. We work directly with firms and companies to train their staff and identify ways to increase DEI in their specific workplace (plus, it’s free). To get started, contact Julia Ekelund
  • We have partnered with The Diversity Movement and will offer free trainings to members on Allyship in June and Difficult Conversations in July.
  • Last month, we gave $170,500 in scholarships to a talented and diverse group of accounting students. Thank you to all our donors who made this possible! To contribute to the 2023 scholarship program, please click here
  • June also marks the 5th anniversary of CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion, and the 3rd anniversary since MassCPAs signed the Pledge, cementing our commitment to DEI. This month, I will meet with organizations across New England to discuss ways we can collaborate to drive change. I will keep you updated on our progress and ways you can get involved.
We can achieve far more together than we can alone. I am excited for the future of this great profession and look forward to working with you all. Have a great weekend!
