AGENDA: Public Accounting to Public Impact: A Career in Service of Community and Data with Lisa Hemmerle, CPA, Director of the Department of Economic Research for the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development

Lisa is the Director of the Department of Economic Research for the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD), which provides high level analyzes, reports and other resources of labor market data to internal and external stakeholders related to employment, unemployment, occupations, industries, and other components of the Massachusetts labor market. Since November 2021, she’s focused on the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund, the Equity Dashboards, and a variety of other labor market projects.

Prior to working for LWD, Lisa was the Director of Economic Development at the City of Cambridge. She focused on regional partnerships to build the tech and biotech industries in Greater Boston. Her proudest achievement was developing a disaster relief grant program that helped hundreds of woman- and minority owned businesses survive the pandemic. Prior to working for the CDD, Lisa worked as the Deputy Director of Economic Initiatives at the Boston Planning and Development Agency (Frmly Boston Redevelopment Authority), developing, promoting, and implementing strategies to attract and retain Boston businesses. Lisa was the founder and executive director of a New Hampshire nonprofit that helps spinal cord injury survivors and worked for KPMG LLP as a consultant on trillion-dollar international banking clients. Lisa graduated summa cum laude from both Northeastern University and Harvard Kennedy School. Lisa is a Lucius N. Littauer Fellow, recognizing academic achievement at Harvard Kennedy School, and a Boston Business Journal “40 Under 40” Honoree, recognizing emerging leaders in Boston. Her programs have also been recognized by the Harvard Kennedy Ash Center for Innovations in American Government and the International Downtown Association. She’s a board member of the Jack Trottier Foundation, on the Andover FY26 Budget Fiscal Committee, and a 5th Grade Coordinator. She recently celebrated 20 years together with her husband, is the mother of an 11-year son and two fur babies, and writes lifestyle blog.
