Massachusetts Society of CPAs Expands Support for High School Accounting Awareness through Bristol Community College Partnership

[BOSTON, MA] July 26, 2022 — The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs), today announced that it has committed $25,000 to Bristol Community College to support the expansion of business-oriented and accounting-focused innovation pathway and early college programs. This partnership will allow the Bristol community to integrate businesses and accounting courses into public high schools in their network and will provide MassCPAs and its 11,000-member community the opportunity to educate students on various career paths in the profession, a strategic goal of MassCPAs.

This announcement comes a year after the Society announced a $25,000 grant to Middlesex Community College for the same purposes and after the successful launch of two MassCPAs support early college academy programs at Haverhill and Chicopee high schools. Each program offers college level courses and credit to interested high school students, at no cost to the student.

“Accounting is a vibrant and expanding profession that offers a lot of room for career growth and advancement, and it’s our job to help students explore all of the opportunities available to them,” said MassCPAs President and CEO Amy Pitter. “We’ve seen the success and impact these programs have had, and the meaningful relationships our members have built with students as a result. We’re excited to continue this work in partnership with the Bristol Community College team.”

Participating students learn the fundamentals of accounting, economics, statistics and information technology, or another relevant course topic. In addition to classroom studies, students gain real-life experience through internships, career readiness workshops and mentoring opportunities, all supported by area accounting firms and businesses.

The grant is fully funded by the MassCPAs Educational Foundation, whose mission is to inspire and support the next generation of CPAs. The Educational Foundation also runs summer programs for diverse young people interested in careers in business and accounting and supports future CPAs through a scholarship program.
