Mr. Herrenkohl’s career has been focused on helping organizations to scale their enterprises and better align to strategic growth objectives, leveraging the latest and most innovative tools and technologies in the areas of analytics, artificial intelligence, data management and process automation.

For corporate real estate organizations, this includes driving improved transparency into key real estate portfolio and operational metrics in order to reduce spend and improve value to the enterprise. For real estate investors, Mr. Herrenkohl’s focus is on driving improved operating efficiency, risk management, and organization structures.

Mr. Herrenkohl has a deep functional expertise in strategic planning, outsourcing, and all facets of digital innovation and cost reduction. His work has spanned complex transactions with Fortune 1000 companies, extensive work in private equity and with REITs, pension funds and institutional real estate investors.

Mr. Herrenkohl’s interest in technology innovation has led him to explore applications in smart buildings, intelligent automation, blockchain, and cyber security.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Herrenkohl led EY’s Global Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction Consulting practice, overseeing all aspects of the corporate real estate, construction and real estate investor advisory services business worldwide.

Roger Tutterow

Roger Tutterow serves as Chief Economic Adviser for Henssler Financial. He is also a Professor of Economics at Kennesaw State University and serves as Director of the Econometric Center, an applied research center housed in Kennesaw’s Coles College of Business. In 2018, The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved the appointment of Dr. Tutterow as the Henssler Financial Endowed Chair at Kennesaw State University.

Dr. Tutterow’s analysis of the economic, business, and political environments have been featured in a variety of media, including Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Arizona Republic, Florida Times-Union, Kansas City Star, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Orlando Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, Wichita Eagle, and on CNN, CNBC, NBC, Bloomberg Television, NPR’s “Marketplace” and “All Things Considered,” CNN-Radio, as well as by regional electronic and print media.

In addition to his work in academia, Dr. Tutterow has served as a consultant on financial economics and statistical modeling for corporate clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to closely held businesses. He has provided expert testimony on economic, financial, and statistical matters in state and federal court, before the Georgia General Assembly, and before the Georgia Public Service Commission. Dr. Tutterow has given several hundred speeches to professional groups in more than 30 states and Canada on topics in the economic, business, and political arenas.

Dr. Tutterow served on the Council of Economic Advisors, under Georgia Governors Sonny Perdue, Nathan Deal, and Brian Kemp. In 2010, he was named to the Special Council on Tax Reform and Fairness for Georgians, which conducted a comprehensive review of Georgia’s Tax Code. In addition, Dr. Tutterow serves on the Georgia Child Support Commission, the Cobb County Public Employees’ Pension Board, and the Board of Trustees of Berry College. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vinings Bank, on the Southern Region Board of Directors for the American Red Cross Blood Services, and the Board of Directors for Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Atlanta. He was selected by Georgia Trend magazine as a “notable Georgian” and as one of “Georgia’s Most Influential” by James magazine.

A Georgia native, Dr. Tutterow holds a Bachelor of Science in Decision Science from Berry College and a Master of Arts and doctorate in Economics from Georgia State University. Prior to rejoining Kennesaw State University, Dr. Tutterow held faculty and administrative appointments at West Virginia University, Georgia State University and Mercer University. He has also served as a visiting professor at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and at the Institute for Industrial Policy Studies in Seoul, South Korea.

Slayton Gilmore

Slayton Gilmore

Slayton joined Smith + Howard in 2013 as an intern and is now a Senior Manager in our Tax Practice and a member of our Real Estate and Construction teams. Slayton’s main focus is on partnership taxation, with an emphasis on commercial and residential real estate. He helps evaluate and structure deals to optimize the owner’s/investor’s return and to minimize tax exposure. Slayton has also amassed experience in fixed asset/depreciation considerations, including tangible property regulations, qualified improvement property rules and cost segregation opportunities. Within the firm, Slayton leads Excel training across all departments and has led new hire training for busy season in the tax department for several years.

With a deep interest in the real estate industry, Slayton began participating in the annual Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Real Estate Conference in 2021. As an active member of the conference’s task force, he is heavily involved in coordinating the events, speakers and topics of each year’s event.

Slayton is a proud, long-time resident of Atlanta’s bustling Westside. As an avid amateur DJ, music producer and drummer in his past life, he is often found tapping, whistling or humming his way through the day.

Mark Abrams

Mark joined Smith + Howard in 1998. He is a partner in the Tax practice, leads the real estate team, is a member of the construction team and also specializes in estate planning and personal financial planning.

Mark works closely with businesses and individuals to help them leverage every advantage related to tax compliance and planning, business credits and more.

Outside of the office, Mark is a member and former treasurer of West Cobb Church. Additionally, he is a board member and on the finance committee at MUST Ministries, Inc.

Mark, his wife and children live in Marietta, Georgia.

Arthur Auerbach

Arthur Auerbach, CPA, is a tax director for Goodman and Company of McLean, VA, specializing in tax consulting and financial planning for individuals and closely held businesses. He is a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Greater Washington society of Certified Public Accountants. He is currently a member of the AICPA Individual Tax Resource Panel, a tax commissioner liaison committee member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, and also serves as a member of the Advisory Board for the District of Columbia Office of Tax Revenue. Additionally, he is a nationally recognized lecturer on a variety of tax topics for the continuing education requirement for CPAs. Over the course of 40-plus years, Mr. Auerbach has managed a tax department, and has taught intermediate and cost accounting at Pace University as an adjunct professor. He was an editor for the Tax Research Institute of America. He has also authored several articles for trade association periodicals and he has recently appeared on television evening news programs, answering various tax questions. Mr. Auerbach holds a BBA degree in accounting from Pace University in New York.

Explore IRS enforcement of payroll tax rules, specifically addressing the issue of independent contractors versus employees. Three agencies are involved in enforcement: the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Department of Labor. The DOL has issued new regulations that became effective on March 11, 2024, that follow the IRS 20 questions on Form SS-8.
